Internet of Things (IoT) Service

A computing concept that describes the idea of everyday physical objects being connected to the internet and being able to identify themselves to other devices.

A Brief Introduction

There has been many discussions and buzz regarding the next big thing, Internet of Things (IoT) for sometime in the global market. So, what is this IoT?In brief, IoT is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects that have the ability to exchange data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.

The IoT allows objects to be sensed or controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit in addition to reduced human intervention.

The IoT revolves around increased machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. It is built on cloud computing and networks of data-gathering sensors. It is mobile, virtual and instantaneous connection. This is essentially the fundamental block of creating something “smart”.

How we are doing it?

We have introduced NT Bus Internet services all over Nepal, as bundling partner of Nepal Telecom, with the aim and perspective of integrating IoT in the transport sector.

This service provides internet access to the end users in their own devices, e.g. mobile, laptop etc, through an industrial router set up at the buses over a Wi-Fi network. In addition to providing the internet service, this device exchanges information with a cloud-based platform, where the database is maintained. Through this platform, one can remotely access the information on the device as well as configure its system settings without physically being there.

We are moving forward to integrate IoT in other essential infrastructures like Education, Health and governance sector. We have successfully implemented the Education system in the private and community schools of Nuwakot. In the near future, the municipalities and health posts are also turning smart through our own IoT services.
